Thiahuanaco in Bolivia is famous for Kalasasaya or Kalasaya temple and Acapana Pyramid; the Tiahuanaco civilization had at Wuari or Huari Ayacucho Peru a commercial center but the principal religious irradiating point was at Tiahuanaco Bolivia.

To reach the entrance of the Kalasasaya temple had to climb by a stone stair flanked by two massive square columns denoting its great solar religious inclinations, since this entrance aligned with the solstice and had other peculiarities to make solar observation permitted the use of this place as a calendar.

In front of Kalasaya temple in the east side, there is a sunken plaza known as Putuni, at its entrance also are stairs as well flanked by square columns but the stairs in this enclosure descend rather than climb. In the middle of this plaza in ancient times were three thin square columns.

The interior is decorated with columns and heads in between in a way similar to Sechin Peru stone temple wall. The heads combination and what they represent probably had a very important meaning now difficult or impossible to decipher.

Tiahuanaco civilization flourished in actual territories of Peru and Bolivia from 200 AC till 1200 AC but reached its maximum splendor between the years 500 AC and 900 AC about 1000 AC started to loose its influence.

Studies point to the to this place as the origin of the Incas, one of the reasons is that the Inca legend concerning their origin, mentions that their first ruler Inca Manco Capac and its wife Mama Ocllo came out of the Titicaca Lake a few miles from were Thiahuanaco is located.

Tiahuanaco people believed in a god named Wiracocha that was the creator of everything, also thought that he came out of the same Lake as the Incas and had the sun in his head as a crown, the legend mention that, he eventually went south as far as Manta Ecuador and them turned west to the ocean and disappeared, in addition the legend mentions that Wiracocha will come back some day.

Besides the frontal door there was a side stair in the southern side that permitted the access to this ritual and observation center.

Akapana pyramid has a height of only 17 meters (56 feet) because it is in a region with frequent strong earthquakes nevertheless it has a considerable volume.

It is a steep pyramid but differ from others, its perimeter is not a simple square is made by the compound of two figures, a cross of four even arms and an eight points cross, two shapes split and ensemble together making a compound shape of 16 angles rather than 4; the top platform also has an original sunken plaza with the shape of the eight points cross.
